March Festivities

 ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘

We had a great week and a half back from winter break!

Students have been learning digraphs during these last couple of weeks. A digraph is two letters that make one sound. So far we have been focusing on /th/ and /sh/.  We have been practicing and searching for these in our reading.

We have begun our new social studies unit on Geography.  We will be looking at all sorts of maps starting with a small scale -our classroom, and then expanding that to our town, state, country, and the world! I have a feeling they will enjoy these fun mapping lessons.

In Math, we have been counting up a storm!  Working on our forward and backward counting and skip counting by 5s and 10s.  We also are playing more games that are having students work on combining numbers for a total and getting more comfortable understanding how to read and write an equation.

This month we are focusing on the theme of optimism! We discussed being aware of our attitudes and changing the negative narrative that may run through our heads sometimes. One story concluded with a great saying "when life gives you rain, look for the rainbow!"  On Friday, we took this rainbow idea and painted rainbows, along with a couple of experiments to make rainbows. One involved melting crayons with a hairdryer!  The other activity involved skittles and warm water! We had a lot of fun with all of these activities.
