Greetings,

We had a busy week in Kindergarten this week.  Snow Motion had a wonderful start!  Thank you to all of you who helped make this day go smoothly, this includes packing your student with warm clothing, ski gear, and all of the wonderful volunteers on the hill!

Students enjoyed some fun games this week in Math.  We played a flip sequence game that challenged kiddos to find the correct order sequence.  They also enjoyed a new dice game, where they roll 3 dice and each roll they set aside the dice that has the highest amount, at the end they counted up all of the dice. Their partner then would do the same and they would compare who had the highest amount.  They are doing very well with counting, counting on from a number, and using facts that they know to total amounts.

We continued our practice with vowels.  Students played a Go Fish game with CVC words that had short vowels. For example the word fin you hear the short vowel /i/ sound.  They also played bingo and matching games.

This week VT Fish & Wildlife taught us about the Ruffed Grouse aka partridge.  We were so impressed at their drumming dance that they do on a log to impress their mates.

Reminders & Requests

****If possible we would love to have students bring in  their own headphones for computer times. This will help with not spreading germs by sharing headphones and also allow for multiple students to use computers at a time!  These can be brought in any time.  Thank you so much! Amazon has several inexpensive brands. If this is a problem I do have 4 classroom pairs that will be available for use.

****The lunch menu is subject to change.  I would suggest that families look at the website the day of to make sure their child will eat what is being served on that day.  Thank you!

****Snacks for Snow Motion:  Please pack an extra snack for your student on Snow Motion days.  Or if you would like to donate a NUT FREE snack like a box of Smart Pop, pretzels, hot cocoa for the class that would be great!  Thank you so much!!

Tracking and More!

 Greetings,

What a great week we have had!

This week we explored our January theme about honesty.  Ms. Neeson created a cute puppet show around being honest that we shared with the class.

Students explored vowels through songs and activities.  Our primary focus is on short vowel sounds like in words cat, jet, it, dog, and up.

In math, we worked on counting and finding the total after a small amount was added.

This week we explored squirrels and their tracks.  Ask your student to share an interesting fact!  During ECO we explored animal tracks even further.  We explored how different animals walk. There are straight walkers, bounders, hoppers, and waddlers.

Friday we celebrated Mrs. Beckwith's last day with us.  We wish her all the best!  We will welcome Mrs. Roy back part-time this week!

Reminders:

Thursday: Snow Motion!!

Friday: Book sale-  The books will be 25 cents apiece.

Greetings,

This week kindergartners began a new writing unit.  This is our narrative unit, a chance for students to write true stories.  They will draw and tell what happened first, next, and next in their story. We discussed how we are constantly creating new stories all day long!

We also began a new science unit this week on Force and Motion. Concepts that we will explore are:  I can change the direction or speed of an object (motion) by changing the amount I push or pull (force).  Heavy objects take more force (harder to push/pull).  Friday we took advantage of the snowy afternoon and practiced moving our bodies with some fun games and then practiced pushing and pulling sleds!

Students had discussions around Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  They all sang a beautiful song at All School Morning Meeting about him. His important message of equality, acceptance, and the importance of being a peacemaker!

Enjoy the three-day weekend!

Reminders:

Please, please, please remember to send warm, outdoor clothing with your child every day! Thank you so much!

I will be placing a book order tomorrow if you need an extra day to do so!

Happy New Year

It was great to be back together again this week!  Some returned with missing teeth, one had turned 6, and many had stories to share!

This week's focus was rebuilding our stamina for the school day, which can be hard after being out of our routine for 11 days!

This week we began a new math unit called Collect, Count, and Measure.  This week we did a couple activities centered around measuring and comparing our shoes with cubes.

During ECO we had fun learning about the amazing nocturnal animal, the owl.  Ask your child to share a fun fact that they learned this week!  I wonder if you can spot an owl's silhouette or hear its calls.  Mating calls will be beginning next month.
