Winter Break is Here!

We made it to winter break!  If you are traveling or having a staycation I hope it is wonderful!

This week we had fun with our Force and Motion unit.  We explored different forces with balls, ramps, and a little bowling game where we needed to cooperate to knock down our pins.

We also wrapped up our tracking study with a short walk in the UCS beautiful forest.  I hope you saw your child's tracking book that was sent home.  They enjoyed sketching a new animal each week.  Maybe this week you all can find time to take a walk and search for different tracks whether it be in the snow or on a beach!  :)

Best wishes and see you in March!

Valentine's Day, Mindfulness, and Cochran's

Greetings,

This week we continued playing math games that involved sequencing numbers and adding numbers together to find the sum.  One game had us adding two numbers, getting the sum then adding 1 or minus (taking away) 1.

We had a lovely Valentine's party!  Thank you to all who thought of others and brought in cards and treats!  There were so many smiling faces and kind acts.

We had our last Snow Motion day this week.  Every child grew their skills and left with great pride and excitement!  We thank Mrs. Cowan, Mr. G., and all of you for volunteering.  We had the most parents show up out of any class!  Mrs. Cowan remarked on how lovely it was to end the week with our session because of all of the great helpers! Also another shout out to all for donating goodies for after our ski days.  We ended with an extra special treat this week, thanks Torstrick family!

At ECO we talked further about how some animals are herbivores, omnivores, or carnivores.  They had fun playing a predator and prey game where they used strategies to escape predators, in this case, a wolf pack.  Many animals will warn others, run, hide, or freeze to avoid being eaten!

We had our first mindful moment with tea on Friday.  We used this time to settle our minds and bodies, and use our senses as we tasted lemon tea.  Students did a nice job practicing how to be polite when they taste something they do or don't like. We look forward to making this a weekly practice.

Notes:

Please continue to pack your child with winter clothing every day!  Thank you!

Play Day/ 100th Day/ Week 3 of Cochran's

 Greetings!

So much fun was had this week: 100th day,  play day, and Buddy Dubay. It was great to have students get to express their creativity and cooperation during our play day yesterday.

Kindergarteners continue to enjoy snow motion and are gaining new skills every week.  We have one more ski/board day this week.

This week we learned about the glued sound -ing ring /ing/. Maybe your kindergartner can spy -ing while you are reading at home! In Math, we began exploring story problems. For example, A mother skunk and her 2 kits waddled over to the trash can and found 5 raccoons enjoying some food.  How many animals were there in all? Create some fun stories together!

Our February theme will be centered around kindness.  Your kind kindergartener will have a chance to show kindness by exchanging  Valentine's with their classmates on Tuesday. Please let me know if you need any supplies!

Thank you for all of your support this week with the half-day, gathering ski gear, snack donations, volunteering, and helping your child gather 100 items to bring in!

This has been a bit of an odd week.  I was out for a couple of days due to a hurt rib and my son also got a concussion last weekend.  My son is doing much better now and my rib is going to take some time, unfortunately.  But the students were so kind and helpful to me on Wednesday and Thursday!

This week students had fun learning about groundhogs, and the Fish & Game taught us about minks. Students continued writing their narrative stories and practiced writing and reading CVC words.

We were very excited to welcome a new student this week!  Thank you to the Yeh Family for the delicious hot cocoa that we enjoyed after another successful Cochran's outing! Students are growing their skills on the mountain quickly!

Stay warm!!!

The 100th day of school will be

Friday, February 10th!

In celebration of the 100th day, I am asking the children to bring in a collection of 100 small objects from home. The objects need to be able to fit in a gallon ziplock bag. Some ideas that fit in that size bag could be buttons, sticks, rocks, shells, marshmallows, paper clips, beads, pennies, Legos, pasta, or cereal.

Children should count their objects at home and bring them by Friday, February 10th. They could put them in groups of 10 and then count by tens to 100.

We will be doing different math activities with these objects so please do not send anything valuable. Encourage your child to be creative and have fun! Thank you for supporting our work at school.

Enjoy spring break and rest up for the remaining weeks of Kindergarten, they are going to fly by! Notes: *My outdoor theater project has b...
