It was another busy and fun week in Kindergarten! The students have been amazing while a lot of assessing has happened these past couple of weeks. Students have made beautiful progress and I look forward to sharing this with all of you in the upcoming report cards and spring conferences in March.

On Thursday, we enjoyed visiting the 3rd and 4th grade Wax Museum. Students worked hard researching an inspiring person and then dressed up like them.  They worked hard all day repeating their speeches for different classes.  The kindergartners loved learning about these people and were respectful listeners during this time!

We closed our week with a beautiful campfire and s'mores out in the Owl Nest.  Later in the day, we relaxed at the "beach" in the library where we read many books and enjoyed the "sun."

Wishing you all a wonderful break!  We will see you on Wednesday, March 6th!

Winter has returned!  Hopefully, this fresh blanket of snow will have your family outside enjoying some winter fun again!

This week was a busy week with Cochran's, V-day, and Global Play Day.  Students worked so hard on their last day at Cochran's. It was so much fun watching the students who hadn't skied or boarded before learning some basic skills to help them move forward!  The Cochran's staff have incredible patience and little tricks to help kids persevere through those challenging first few experiences. Thank you again to all the parents who were able to help out! Thank you to everyone for helping your child come to school prepared for these outings- it's a lot of gear!

On Wednesday, we had a beautiful day celebrating friendship and love. Thank you for helping your child make cards for their classmates and teachers. Students enjoyed making French toast together at the end of the day.  Throughout the day the kindergartners continued to express how they thought this day was the best day ever! ❤

Students played some challenging math games this week in math. These games involved adding dice, making strategic moves on the game board, and working with a partner. Working with partners is always a high preference but it does take skills like playing fairly, being patient, and displaying good sportsmanship whether you win or lose.

Students are beginning to see themselves as readers.  This time of year is an exciting time when letter knowledge begins to transfer to word and or sentence reading!

Reminders/Notes:

Friday is Tropical Day.  Have fun dressing in summer clothing (towel, t-shirt, shorts, sunglasses, sun hat) BUT please bring warm clothing too!  We will be going outside for ECO on this day.  During ECO we hope to have a special treat (S'mores by the campfire! Shhh, it's a surprise! Contact me if you have any concerns about your child having graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.)  Thanks!

A Quick Update

Hello,

Apologies for the late post, I was without internet all weekend due to a phone line down.

Your child brought home their track journals on Friday. Several students wanted me to share the website where they could watch more animal videos.  Here is the site.

Also on Friday Mrs. Cowan and I ran the All School Meeting and had the help of some Kindergarteners!  Some volunteered to stand up in front of the school and help read a kind message from our kindness wall.  At the end of the meeting, all of the kindergartners handed out painted hearts to the entire school!  Everyone was surprised and hopefully were inspired to continue the ripple of kindness! ❤

Reminder/notes:

Tomorrow is our last Cochran's outing.

Wednesday is Valentine's Day!  We are planning to have a card exchange.  I would also love to have a little treat consisting of mini French toast bites (wheat bread, egg, cinnamon, butter, maple syrup) that we'll make together.  Please let me know if you have questions or concerns about this.

This week we continued to enjoy our time at Cochran's and just as predicted, everyone is making great progress with their skills! My apologies if you don't see pics of your child.  During the lesson, I am helping out on the bunny hill and I don't get to see those skiing on the big hill!

In Math, we are taking some extra time to practice our number formation.  We are also playing with story problems and how those can be represented.  We also began manipulating tiles in different ways with some challenge problems.  For example, can you use 6 tiles, one color, and have each tile touching another tile's side? How many different ways can you arrange them? Arranging these sets in different ways are reinforcing the idea that a quantity is a quantity no matter how arranged, while decomposing numbers into parts.

This week in Literacy, we continue our letter sound practice and are decoding words.  Students were introduced to the /wh/ digraph found in words like what, where, and why.  Digraphs are two letters that make one sound.  We have worked with /sh/, /th/, and /ch/ sounds.

Reminders:

Tuesday: Snowmotion

Wednesday is an early dismissal day. There will be a guest teacher on this day, I have an appointment.
