The warmth of the sun and the new sounds of returning birds are sure signs that spring is here!

This week we have been having fun exploring books about spring and building an awareness of how precious water is in our lives and to Earth!  Mr. Smith joined us for ECO and we put on a puppet show about the water cycle.  A fun fact we learned is that some raindrops falling from the sky today could have been the same droplets that rolled down a dinosaur's back!

We have now introduced the digraphs ch, th, and sh.  It has been so fun seeing students recognize these in their reading and add them to their writing.

It was lovely meeting with so many of you to share how your wonderful child has been blossoming this year.

Reminders:

Please keep sending your child in with proper outdoor gear.  Snow, slush, and mud will be around for quite some time!

Friday was the end of our Read for Ronald McDonald House. If you participated please bring in your money no later than March 31st.  Thank you

On April 5th Kindergarteners will be able to shop for books at the Scholastic book club fair at Library and then one more time on Friday, April 7th.

March Festivities

 ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘☘ ☘

We had a great week and a half back from winter break!

Students have been learning digraphs during these last couple of weeks. A digraph is two letters that make one sound. So far we have been focusing on /th/ and /sh/.  We have been practicing and searching for these in our reading.

We have begun our new social studies unit on Geography.  We will be looking at all sorts of maps starting with a small scale -our classroom, and then expanding that to our town, state, country, and the world! I have a feeling they will enjoy these fun mapping lessons.

In Math, we have been counting up a storm!  Working on our forward and backward counting and skip counting by 5s and 10s.  We also are playing more games that are having students work on combining numbers for a total and getting more comfortable understanding how to read and write an equation.

This month we are focusing on the theme of optimism! We discussed being aware of our attitudes and changing the negative narrative that may run through our heads sometimes. One story concluded with a great saying "when life gives you rain, look for the rainbow!"  On Friday, we took this rainbow idea and painted rainbows, along with a couple of experiments to make rainbows. One involved melting crayons with a hairdryer!  The other activity involved skittles and warm water! We had a lot of fun with all of these activities.

Enjoy spring break and rest up for the remaining weeks of Kindergarten, they are going to fly by! Notes: *My outdoor theater project has b...
